Toki no Kizuna Official Fanbook ~Sekigahara Kitan~

I’ve been eyeing this fanbook since like forever, and it finally came in my mailbox a few days ago! Yahoo! So I was excited and went upstairs to my room… where I was pretty much left disappointed. il||li _| ̄|○ il||l

This page contains major spoiler of the game, so proceed with caution or leave if you don’t want to be spoiled.

First of all, the illustrations are pretty (which is a given, really). But nothing seems special enough because I’ve seen almost every illustration inside all over the Internet and otome games magazines (i.e. B’s-LOG). There’s only one I’ve never seen before, but I’m pretty sure it’s just because that one picture is the only a fanbook exclusive  one. Every illustration other than the Senkimaru one has been pretty much covered everywhere else, which is a little too bad. :/

Yeah, I haven’t seen that SenkimaruxCastella picture before.

Everything after the illustration pages are pretty standard. There are introduction pages of the demons, including their sprites and short biography information plus jutsu, etc., and the humans. There is also a short story for each of the demons about their respective clans, but then again everything on it has already made appearance in B’s-LOG.

Apparently MIKO designed Chitose with the concept of “main hero” in mind, so it is safe to assume that he is the main guy in the game although to me every guy is pretty much the same in terms of main-ness (?).

So unless you’ve been living under a rock or have never read any otome games magazines they’d be pretty much old stuff.

The fanbook also contains summaries of each route, including the good and bad endings. The bad endings are pretty much alternate endings where your guy dies and you’re left off with his general, hence “General’s Ending.” It doesn’t apply to Senkimaru’s route since he doesn’t have one and Honda doesn’t count, so it is just called Ending 2. Maybe I should go back to play the game for the bad endings, but I… hate bad endings. LOL. Kazuya’s bad ending looks pretty emotional too.

Also walkthrough, cast interviews, more illustrations, early design sketches, and that’s all about it.

The gluing is horrible zomg.  il||li _| ̄|○ il||l I’ve only opened the book for about 5 minutes or so and the last pages are literally falling apart, as you can see above. I guess this is what sucks about full-colored stuff. (_ _|||)

For ¥2500, a full-colored 127 pages fanbook doesn’t sound so bad. But it is bad if you’ve already plowed through B’s-LOG or DGS and seen the majority of Toki no Kizuna illustrations. It’s still a nice add-on, though, but unless you’re a rabid fan of the game I wouldn’t advise buying it. Also, this thing DOES NOT weigh 950g. LOL. Yes, CD Japan, I’m looking at you.

This is the first time I’ve ordered books from honto.jp too, and I honestly think they’re pretty awesome. I had to wait for about 3 weeks and 2 days since I’m cheap and picked SAL, but that is only because a set of books I wanted had around 7 days waiting time period. If it wasn’t for it I would probably have gotten the package after around 2 weeks.

  1. Hahahaha XD
CD Japan always making mistakes about the weight. I bought a manga there once and the weight wasn’t the same announced in the website.
Indeed the illustrations are pretty. But I know how an artbook can be disappointing too =/

    1. Yeah CD Japan needs to stop that average weight thing because it’s way off. 8D

Eh, in one way or another I expected this since fanbook is targeted for huge fans. I thought I am one, but I guess I wasn’t that huge of a fan. LOL. So depending on your thoughts of the game, this fanbook can either be a masterpiece or a mediocre.
